The Cryptopygus Antarcticus is a species of springtail. It produces anti-freeze compounds to stay alive.

The Cryptopygus Antarcticus has an average length of 1.2mm and it weighs only a few micrograms.

The Onychiurus Arcticus is also a species of Springtail and uses protective dehydration to stay alive.

During the process of the protective dehydration the body loses all water. The head looks like a normal head while the body looks like a scrunched up chip packet.
