Without Willem Kolff's invention, many people would die of kidney failure. Open heart surgery wouldn't be possible without his heart-lung machine either. I mean, yeah, somebody could have made the inventions later, but the sooner the better, right? William Kolff died on February 11, 2009, in Pennsylvania.
