Hiking

The park contains seven hiking trails, some paved. The names of the trails are Painted Desert Rim, Puerco Pueblo, Blue Mesa, Crystal Forest, Giant Logs, Long Logs, and Agate House. Hikers and backpackers may also go to the park's wilderness areas. Bicycles are not allowed on the trails. Free permits are mandatory for overnight stays and are offered from the Painted Desert Visitor Center, Painted Desert Inn, and Rainbow Forest Museum.
