The Great awakening is a religious movement that swept the United States. “Finney and his contemporaries were participants in the Second Great Awakening. These preachers rejected the 18th-century Calvinistic belief that god determined if you went to heaven or he'll when you die. Instead they empathized individual responsibility for seeking salvation. They also insisted that they could help themselves and society.
