Even though Lamar has sent aside land for public education, a little progress were made to it. Anglo American children attended private schools that was established by their communities or their churches. In 1854 governor Elisha M. Pease signed a law that set aside $2 million for special scopolamine fund. But money was still lacking. However, some scopolamine were established. The permanent school fund was established in 1876 to ensure future support for public education.
