Portuguese Search for Labor
In the Beginning...
All of the sudden...
So...
- Disease struck down; smallpox and measles killed most of the Brazilian population, making it difficult for Portuguese to find potential laborers
- The Portuguese decided to use African slaves to replace the loss
- They started importing slaves and demanded cane cultivation and sugar productions
-Tried to enlist local citizens as laborers in order to decrease labor fees
- Local citizens in Brazil tried to resist by commandeering their labor, evading Portuguese forces, and escaping from the workplace
