"In Proctor’s presence a fool felt his foolishness instantly-and a Proctor is always marked for calumny therefore."

John

Proctor

"I have trouble enough without I come five mile to hear him preach only hellfire and bloody damnation. Take it to heart, Mr. Parris. There are many others who stay away from church these days because you hardly ever mention God any more." (Miller 47). This quote said by Proctor himself shows how powerful he can be. Proctor openly criticizes the reverend and gets away with it.

"Since Proctor’s entrance, Abigail has stood as though on tiptoe, absorbing his presence, wide-eyed." (Miller 42). This is not a quote said by a person, but it is a description of how Abby reacts to Proctor when he enters the room. The way Miller describes her as "absorbing his presence, wide-eyed" speaks for itself. Proctor can make even fools like Abby, speechless.
