Analysis of "The Rime of Ancient Mariner"

Day after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

introduction

The narrator is on a ship. The REPETITION lets us know that there is lots of time passing. SIMILE: Comparing the ship's speed to a painted ship lets us know that they are not moving at all. Does a painted ship move?
What is it saying? These people are not moving and are stuck out in the ocean not moving. They are in a bad situation. They might as well be in a picture of a ship.
