What is a transition?

A transition sentence is a sentence in which connects the ideas in an essays paragraphs together. While each paragraph has its own distinct main idea within each body paragraph, it is necessary that there is a relation between all of the paragraphs for your audience to identify.
Transitional words and phrases connect sentences and paragraphs to each other. Paragraph transitions suggest a relation between one specific idea and the next. Within a paragraph, transitions provide a sense of coherence. Between paragraphs, paragraph transitions help with the flow of writing from beginning to end which provides organization throughout the essay as well as coherence.
