LIBERALS AND NATIONALISTS SEEK CHANGE

Liberals were people, like business owners and lawyers, who spoke for high and middle class people. Liberals wanted their government based on a written constitution, "they defend the natural rights of individuals to liberty, equality and property." Liberals saw the government have limited protection to basic rights like freedom of thought and speech.
