Cortes Conquers the Aztec

- In 1400 Spanish "explores" arrived in the Americas. Later called Conquistadors, came for gold and spread for Christianity
- Cortes landed in Mexico in 1519, looking for gold

-Moctuezuma II believed Cortes was a god. He resembled a god they believed would return someday.
-Moctuezuma sent gifts to Cortes, which included gold. Searching more gold he reached Tenochtitlan. He was greeted as god but took Moctuezuma to prison.
