In a DNA, the phosphate group and the 5 carbon sugar make the “backbone” or the lining of the DNA while the nitrogenous bases make up the inner part. The nitrogenous bases in the middle have hydrogenous bonds that hold the bases together – A and T have 2 hydrogen bonds while C and G have 3.
