Spanish And the Incas

Francisco Pizarro led a small band of men from Central America to Peru (180 at first but with reinforcements 600) and toppled the Inca empire (1532-1533). They arrived at Cuzco when there was a huge internal argument and took advantage of it. When they took Cuzco they called all elites together and killed most of them. The ones they didn't kill like the Incan ruler Atahualpa were used as leverage to get gold.
Many people hated the Incas (overlords and tax collectors) and so they put up no resistance to Pizarro. Smallpox spread from Mexico and Central America and aided Pizarro's efforts. He faced more problems from fresh Spanish interlopers and by 1540 Spanish forces controlled all of the former Inca empire.
