Many settlers like us lived on the coast of New Hampshire. This allowed us access to shipbuilding, fishing, and whaling.
Whaling is the process of hunting whales for the oil found in their blubber. This oil was flammable and used in many lamps at that time.

Soil in the New Hampshire are was poor and the area was very mountainous so farming was difficult. However, corn, squash, rye, pumpkins, and beans were grown. Wheat, a very common crop, did not grow well.
