Early Settlement

While John Mason is considered the founder of New Hampshire he never set foot onto his land. This land was established by John Wheelwright and other colonists in 1638. New Hampshire was originally a part of the Massachusetts colony. They united with Massachusetts in 1641 and were under this colony's protection for 40 years.
