Greece likes to spend money on luxury things such as paying for the 2004 Olympics which was a very high expense. Greece's government took advantages of their money and used it on not so important things such as giving the public raises. In 2009, the EU ordered France, Spain, the Irish Republic and Greece to reduce their budget deficits. Greece kept spending more and more money and went beyond their means. This crisis started because Greece did not handle their money well and kept spending over their budget.
