Martin Luther
On October 31, 1517, a priest named Martin Luther added his voice to the call for reform. He nailed a list of complaints about the church onto the church door. His list of complaints are now known as the Ninety-Five theses. Thanks to the printing press that was created many of Luther's complaints were turned into copies and spreaded throughout the neighboring German states. The theses criticized the church and many of its practices especially the sales of indulgences. The theses also outlined many of Luther's own beliefs. He believed that people didn't have to do charity work or or give money to the church, according to Luther as long as people believed in God and lived by the Bible, their souls would be saved.
