Ashley is a smart, responsible, but saddened ten year old girl. Ashley is saddened from her fathers death. Her father died of cancer one year before she moved to ms.coopers house. He changed her whole life. In the book it says that she used to laugh and tell jokes, but now she spends her time crying, upset at her father for leaving. I know Ashley is responsible because her mother told ms.Cooper she had no reason to worry about Ashley being trouble, because she always followed the rules. Last I think that Ashley is smart because she is so mature acting, and always knows what to do. Ashley takes care of her mother, and always does what is best. When Ashely found a doll in the garden, she knew it needed to find its owner. I don't know if Ashley is academically smart, but I would imagine she is. Ashely is the kind of person that is an excellent role model, and can defiantly be trusted.
