What is Socialisation?

Socialisation

What are the different types of Socialisation?

Socialisation is ...

...the process of learning to be a participating member of society.

...the process of social control (brings about regulation of our behavior and brings conformity to the norms and laws of society.)

...socialising, which is the act through which we achieve socialisation. It includes any type of interaction with any member of society. These members of society are referred to as the socializing agents. (Common examples are: our family, the law, the media, our friends. Ect.)

The two types of Socialisation are...

...primary socialisation, the informal process through which we learn the norms, attitudes, values, and actions of our cultures. It takes place in early childhood and our families are the main influence. It ends around the age when we first go to school.

And...

...secondary socialisation, the informal process through which we learn how to act in a way that is appropriate to the situations that we are in. It never ends, we can learn throughout our entire lives.
