A lot of babies are born deaf due to genetic reasons. The pre- natal causes of deafness are such that the gene may run in your family, even if their are no deaf people, in your family.

Post-natal causes that contribute to deafness are such things as being pre mature, being a premie you are more susceptible to infections that may cause the deafness. Also many premise are born with severe jaundice and have lack of oxygen which as well can both cause deafness in babies.
