Evolutionary Relationships

Based on comparison and analysis of 5s and ssRNA sequences in the genomes of different groups, scientists have determined that Halophiles are closely related and descendent of anaerobic methanogens. This makes sense considering they share many similar characteristics. Like Halophiles, some Methanogens are rod shaped and many are extremophiles as well.

Halophiles are also derived from eubacterial lineage.
