The Adrenal Cortex produces numerous hormones called corticosteroids, which are involved in important functions of the body such as regulation of metabolism, blood pressure, and sodium and potassium levels.
The adrenal cortex secertes hormones to regulate the body's metabolism, chemicals in the blood, and certain body characteristics.
Damage to the cortex disrupts the production of two of the hormones, cortisol and aldosterone, leading to a variety of symptoms, including weakness, darkening of skin and mucous.
It is located on top of the Kidney within the adrenal gland.
