Another major operation of the Pentagon is assisting Hollywood with the production of movies. Public information specialists work with film and television series, reviewing scripts and proposals, advise producers on military procedures and decide how much assistance a film or TV show portraying the military should receive.

Movies portraying the military in a positive light, such as Transformers & Iron Man are more likely to receive assistance from the military than those with less flattering or ambiguous messages. The military denied requests for assistance for Born on the Fourth of July & Jarhead presumably because these films often raise questions about government actions and motives.
