Purgatory
A place where souls went before they went to heaven. In Purgatory the souls were punished for the sins they committed in their life. After they paid for their sins they were released to heaven. Some people didn't like the idea that the rich could " pay there way to heaven". This was one of the factors that lead to the 95 theses.
