The word protestant has the word protest in it therefore the people of the protestant church were trying to protest against the rituals and corruption of the Catholic Church. The word reformation has the root word reform in it, so they were trying to reform a church without the corruption. They used some powerful words to describe their protest but only educated people noticed that.
