-the Aztecs had to overcome many geographical challenges
-the capital was built on an island in Lake Texcoco
-the city island's location made travel and trade difficult
-a very wealthy city
-the lake water was dirty, built a stone aqueduct to bring in fresh water
-soon became the greatest on the Americas
-200,000 people lived there but were later destroyed by Europeans
-huge temples, busy markets, clean streets, and a huge palace
-causeways were made of rocks covered with dirt
