The Souls of Black Folk
depiction of African American life.
NCAAP
was a civil rights organization founded in 1909 after eight African Americans lost their lives in
an Illinois race riot. Many people were outraged and called for a committee of activists to battle discrimination. The result was NCAAP.
Segregation in the U.S. government
occurred during President Woodrow Wilson's term, even though
he promised otherwise when running for election. 15 of the 17 African American officials were replaced with whites.
The U.S. entered World War I
in 1917. African American soldiers were willing to fight but were wary of
discrimination in the army. The Third Battalion, 24th infantry was made up of all African Americans.
