enlisted some African American soldiers in the army, but they were hardly ever
allowed to fight on the front lines, and they were barred from serving in the Marines and the Army Air Corps until late into the war. However, the Tuskegee Airmen are regarded as heroes for protecting American planes flying over Germany.
Jackie Robinson
was the first African American to play in Major League Baseball. He was often
rejected by other baseball players, but he was earned glory among the public and the African American community.
Brown v. Board of Education
was a historic case in which segregation in schools was declared
unconstitutional. This overruled the earlier case Plessy v. Ferguson, which decided that segregation was legal.
