Angle of sunlight

As the sun rises in the east and sets in the west it follows a path that changes the seasons. During winter the sun's highest point in the sky is quite low. But during summer the sun gets much higher and provides more direct concentrated heat. This is the reason that the seasons have different temperatures and the polar regions are colder on average than the regions around the equator. The flashlight experiment is very good about showing the angles of the sunlight. See picture below.
