Rotation
The earths rotation refers to the spinning of our planet spinning on its axis. The rotation causes to move at the equator at a speed about 467m per second. If you look at the North Pole from space you would notice the direction of the rotation is counter clockwise. The opposite is true about the South Pole.
One rotation takes exactly 24 hours and is one day. The edge dividing daylight from night is called the circle of illumination
Revolution
The orbit of the earth around the sun is called earths revolution. A full cycle takes 365.26 days, and the earths orbit is not circular but elliptical. This causes the earths distance to the sun to change but this dose not cause the seasons. This causes the amount of solar radiation revived by the earth to annually vary by about 6% on January 3, perihelion when the earth is closest to the sun (147.3 million km). The earth is farthest away from the sun or aphelion (152.1 millions km)
