El Salvador's fairly rainy and moist climate allows for dense wildlife beginning with the rarely seen jaguar. Most of the mammals in the country are much smaller, such as the tapir, monkeys, and armadillos. The sea life is just as diverse with large mammals like whales to thousands of fish and shellfish, including sharks, rays, jellyfish, and more. The real uniqueness comes with the birds and to a lesser degree the reptiles and amphibians. There are hundreds of bird species, including warblers, parakeets, owls, wrens, and parrots. The reptiles and amphibian life is similar to much of Central America, with alligators, crocodiles, turtles, snakes, and many more.
