Sectionalism
Definition: Sectionalism means to have loyalty to a certain region.

Sectionalism affecting the North: Sectionalism affect the North. Northern factory owners did not care about the southern factory owners. The southern factories were paying higher prices for their goods because of the import tariff. Since a Northern factories didn't usually import their goods this didn't affect them. The Northerners demonstrated sectionalism by not caring about the factories in the South.
Sectionalism affecting the South: Since the South favored slavery they had to succeed from the union to have it. They were afraid that president Lincoln would force them to end slavery in the states. The South couldn't lose slavery because agriculture was there main source. Some slave trade was Illegal but they pulled it off. The North followed Lincoln since he disliked slavery so the South knew they would have to become their own states to have slavery.
