Treatments and Drugs:
The most widely prescribed medications for Osteoporosis are Bisphosphonates.
Examples: Alendronate, Risedronate, Lbandronate, and Zoledronic Acid

Just like any medication, there are side effects such as, nausea, abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, and also the risk of an inflamed esophagus or esophageal ulcers. Long term Bisphosphonate therapy has caused a rare problem in some people. This problem is, the middle of the thigh bone (femur) cracks, or possibly even breaks completely.

Another type of treatment that doctors to are Hormone Therapies! Estrogen can help an enormous amount when helping maintain bone density. Although, too much Estrogen for women may increase the risk of blood clots, endometrial cancer, breast cancer, and in some cases even heart disease.
