The Great Awakening

The great awakening was a huge religious movement that hit the U.S. around the 1800s. Led by Charles Finney, the preachers of the second great awakening pushed the idea that God did not pre decide your life and that you can truly change your destiny. It gave more hope to the common citizen and showed that responsibility was important. It also introduced Christianity to many of the enslaved African Americans and some churches even allowed both blacks and whites to attend them.
