Many people during this time period thought that if women were to be educated than their bodies and minds would be overwhelmed and wouldn't be able to handle it. Men thought that they would become corrupted and lose their purity or that they would suffer nervous breakdowns. Women knew that they could handle it so it irritated them that they were seen as so weak.
