Describe:
The weeping woman by Pablo Picasso, 1937. Picasso uses many colors and pieces of the human face to create a busy and confusing painting.
Theme: human emotions
Analyze:
Interpret:
There is a face, hair, a hat, hands, a wall, and a floor.
There are implied lines, active, vertical, horizontal, clean, and actual lines.
There are both geometric and curving shapes.
The colors in this painting are bright and bold and relate to a weeping woman in distress.
-My eye travels to the blue part of the face along with the blue fingers because of the abundant lines and shapes within and near the face
- Also, the whole area is blue, contrasting with the colorful rest of the painting
-The recurring yellow ties the whole painting together.
-The many different types and directions of the lines create movement
The different and confusing layers of this painting show not only a "weeping" woman, but a mess of a woman. I think there are a lot of different ways to view this picture and because some of the objects are not very clear, you could imagine them as different things. I think that the colors Picasso used could be associated with an unorganized situation and they help convey this woman's emotions as well.
