SECOND BATTLE OF BULL RUN
BATTLE OF FORT SUMTER
The Battle of Fort Sumter was the battle that started the Civil War. On April 12, 1861, Confederate forces attacked Union-occupied Fort Sumter. The Confederates aimed to capture the fort, and fired from the harbor until Fort Sumter and its ineffective guns surrendered. There were no casualties on that day, but the battle sparked a war that would produce the most casualties of any American war to date.
The Second Battle of Bull Run was a major victory for the South. The battle began on August 28, 1861 when Lincoln commanded General John Pope to lead the Union army and attack the Confederate capital of Richmond. The battle was bloody and resulted in about 22,177 casualties. It went on for three days, and ended with the Confederates defeating the Union’s advance.
