Segregation and Violence
-Segregation ensured that African Americans were treated as second class citizens.
-Segregation was required by statutes called the Jim Crow Laws.
-The Jim Crow laws required the separation of blacks and whites in schools, parks, public buildings, hospitals, and on transportation systems.
-Lynching was used to intimidate African Americans by displaying what would happen to them if they acted as if they weren't second class citizens.
