The battle of Kenesaw Mountain began with the Union carrying out a tactical attack on the Confederates. After three hours of heavy bombardment, the Confederates were crowned with a victory. The Union, suffering from three times the casualties of their enemy, limped off the battlefield. Without any reinforcements on their way and morale at an all time low, the future of Sherman's army looked grim.
