common name: toad
Latin name: bufo bufo

Toads are a part of the Animalia kingdom, the Chordata phylum, the Amphibia class, and the order of Anura. A toad is almost any type of frog that is notifiable by dry, leathery skin, short legs, and snout-like parotoid glands. Parotoid glands are sometimes referred to as warts, but they are present on healthy specimens and are not an infection. A group of toads is called a knot. Toads dry bumpy brown skin is used to hide from predators or blend into its surroundings better. In taxonomy, toads are found in the families Bufonidae, Bombinatoridae, Discoglossidae, Pelobatidae, Rhinophrynidae, Scaphiopodidae, and Microhylidae.
