"And on a day we meet to walk the line
And set the wall between us once again.
We keep the wall between us as we go."

This stone wall symbolizes a divide between the two properties. Also, the wall develops the character of the neighbor as having an ancient and old-fashioned way of thinking, which is noticed through words such as "spells", "elves", and "old-stone savage" in the poem.
