The Gupta empire was in Power for about 220 years (320 AD - 550 AD). The Indian subcontinent was united, peaceful, and prosperous during this time period. Hinduism had a strong impact on the society.

Gupta physicians used herbs to treat illnesses, were able to set bones, and treat facial injuries with types of plastic surgeries. They Vaccinated people for smallpox. They built squared stone temples for Hindu worship. Shrines (stupas) were created for Buddhists. Fables and folk tales were written in Sanskrit. After about 200 years the empire declined due to invasions of the white Huns.

They had a strong central government and gave some power to local leaders. In the villages, the headman or head council made decisions. In these times women could hold positions n the councils however that soon changed.

Because they used the caste system, a stable society was created. Houses were built made of stone and earth.
Wealthy families lived as joint families (grandparent, parents, children, etc.), and families were patriarchal, or ran by the men of the house. Women's roles became stricter over time. They made their environment and atmosphere peaceful. "Schools" were at religious institutes. They also developed the decimal system, the concept of zero, and the numbers(Arabic numerals).
