He is Hester prynne's husband who is On his journey to get back to his wife when he gets captured by Indians (everyone thought he was dead). It took him two years until he returned. When he finally gets to the new land he finds out that his wife has committed adulturay.throughout the story he is a Multilayered , antagonist who is a one dimensional villain. Acts with revenge of which represents sin and evil, which lead to the decomposition of his character.
