Even though Lamar put aside land for schools, not much progress had been made in public education. Most Anglo American kids went to private schools run by their towns or churches. In 1854 Governor Elisha Pease made a law setting aside $2 million for public school, schools that could really use the money. In 1876, the permeant school fund was made.
In Texas, pastimes were apart of every day routines. These included, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and dancing.
There were parties during Fiestas, weddings, baptisms, revivals, and even election rallies. Some theater groups would entertain people in towns with plays, and even newspapers would give info and humor.
