Most Texans lived on farms. But many moved into different towns. The number of people living in towns skyrocketed from 1859-1860.
The towns weren't exactly cities. They had homes and some shops, but they were all made out of logs and such.
In the 1850's, most Texans still rode horseback, or in wagons. The Rio Grande was the only safe river to cross, most others were too dangerous to cross by water. In the east, there were some lager rivers that did have steam ships. In most towns, there were stagecoaches that worked like taxis. In the 1850's, railroads started to be made. By 1860, 400mi of track was in service.
