German Settlers: The leader of the German settlers was nobleman Otfried Hans and Freiherr Von Meusebach. They settled around Fredericksburg, Comfort, and New Braunfels. They were there during the 1840s, 1850s, and 1860s. They came seeking political or religious freedom, others came in search of economical opportunities. Many German settlers who came to Texas were part of Adelsverein (the society for the protection of German immigrants in Texas). Adelsverein then founded other community's to the north and west, including Fredericksburg. Germans were also the largest number of settlers out do the groups.
