Germans in Texas

WHO:Nobleman Otfried Hans, Freiherr Von Meusebach (who later changed his name to John O. Meusebach in his new home)
WHERE:Meusebach brought around 2,000 German settlers to New Braunfels, and later founded other communities such as Fredericksburg.
WHEN:Most German settlers came during the 1840's and 1850's and in 1860 there were around 43,000 settlers in Texas that were born outside the US.
WHY: Many came for religious freedom, and economic opportunities, but many came as an organized effort of the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas.
