WHEN:In 1850 there were about 1,403 Irish settlers in Texas(which later increased to 3,480 by 1860) Other large European groups settled in masses in Texas in the 1850's
WHY:The Irish came when they fled their homeland when Famine hit, and many other came for promising opportunities and vast empty land
