Relationship theme

Description: Most of the painting is done in white, leaving space. The couple is sitting on a golden thrown implying they are royalty. The man on the bed/thrown has blue skin implying that he is a god. All three people in the painting have black hair.

Analyze: In this painting, the artist uses gold and silver which symbolizes the royalty of the couple. The artist uses emphasis on the man through the color of his skin.

Interpret: Because the man on the thrown is blue, you could conclude that he is either a king or god because of his odd color of skin. He uses overlapping to show space between the ground that the people are standing on and the hills in the background. The perspective of where the man is standing facing the couple is changed when the viewer looks at the canopy. The canopy is slanted to one point making it more obvious that the onlooker is looking at an angle into the painting.

Judge: This painting is well put together using the elements of emphasis, space, overlapping and texture. The symbolism of the blue man could be interpreted in different ways; however, many viewers could interpret it the way I have.
