In medieval Europe, a serf was a peasant bound to the lord's land. They did not have freedom and could not be bought or sold. They could not leave the manor without their lord's permission. Peasants and their lords were tied together by moral obligations and rights. Serfs had to work seven days a week. The fate of peasants and all off their choices were decided by the lords.In Return for their work, some serfs were allowed to farm land of their own. Their lords also provided protection for serfs. Serfs also could not be forced off the land. Overall Serfs were guaranteed shelter, food, and land
